For thousands of years, women’s interest (and men’s interest as well, since the main producers of cosmetics: chemists, perfumers, tasters – they are also called “noses” – smell fragrant products; factory owners, distributors and so on are mostly men) in cosmetics has not weakened, but even increased. There are no indifferent people here: there are staunch supporters and desperate opponents of cosmetics.
I would say about the opponents: they are in vain. After all, with the help of skilful cosmetics you can add beauty to this world, and everyone will be more pleasant to live in such a world. There are no ugly people, especially women. There are the lazy ones who hide their disregard for their own appearance behind their busyness.
Not long ago I had to hear the bitter words of a man whose love for his wife left him because she was lazy in that regard. He said: “A woman should watch out for her beauty!” Indeed, a spectacular appearance is the result of a long systematic work on oneself. They say that a woman before the age of 30 is how nature made her, and after 30 is how a woman made herself. Do you think that you’re too young to worry? No, the mistakes of youth sometimes affect you later. Including from a cosmetic point of view. Even now you have a slight panic because of the frequent use of cream powder to camouflage black eye.
What is the ideal of beauty
It is a paradox, but there is no absolute beauty. We have already said that every era, every century and even every decade has its own ideal. In addition, it is a great rarity to have a person with perfectly correct facial features. At the same time, how many charming women with the wrong features! What is the secret here? Obviously, that they were able to emphasize their uniqueness, identity, what distinguishes them from hundreds of others.
The secret of female attractiveness
This is the secret of attractiveness: to emphasize not the average beauty, but the inherent beauty of this particular girl or woman, which will be the only and unique, one among all for someone. Every woman has a special and unique charm. It can be accentuated with makeup, if it’s done skillfully. But if it isn’t, it can ruin everything.
I remember a cartoon, I don’t know what it was called. Its authors made up many masterpieces of world art in a modern way in front of the audience. And here are the beautiful and so different women of different times became all on the same face with the induced eyes and the same painted mouth!
Attitudes toward cosmetics today
Unfortunately, many women and girls on our streets are very similar to each other, especially in that they don’t know how to use makeup. No doubt about it, makeup is necessary. Americans say categorically: not wearing makeup at work or in public is disrespectful to others.
The milder French point out: the best makeup is the one you can’t see. When I got to France, to Paris, I was very surprised: all the women and girls looked very fresh, as if they had just washed in a cold forest stream. That was the impression. Very strange looked my companions, who frightened passersby with their very brightly colored eyelids and lips. The interpreter who accompanied us then ironically remarked that even the women of easy virtue who live in the places strictly reserved for their profession, the Place Pigalle and the Rue Saint-Denis, do not wear such bright colors.
