Did you know that the biggest influence on other people’s perception of your clothing is color? The phenomenon of the influence of color has been known for a long time. Even in ancient India they knew about it and depicted good spirits with one color and evil with another. Already in our time the famous Swiss psychologist Max Loscher has done a huge research work in this field. Do you want to know the results? Let’s take a look at what the colors in clothing mean.

Red and Pink

Symbolizes activity, creativity, overcoming the old, the desire to manifest one’s self. The most active and tiring for the eyes. Red excites the nervous system, and, as has long been believed, primarily in sexual terms.

Once the newspaper “Week” announced a competition for a short story, the beginning of which was a description of a beautiful woman. And so: the vast majority of male authors “dressed” this woman in a red (burgundy, purple, cherry) dress. Do you think that says something?

Many women love the color red. But we must remember that it is one of the most dangerous colors. It requires an extremely careful approach to yourself. If you abuse the red color, for example: red coat, dress, bag, shoes – you can look like a tasteless woman. Remember that this color quickly becomes saturated. It looks best in complementary colors.

Pink expresses infantilism, softness. Maybe that’s what real men are looking for? They rarely allow themselves this color. Except for the incomparable theater director Roman Viktyuk in his unexpectedly pink jacket. But he is the one who needs to impress the audience with his performances and his looks. Pink is a wonderful color for girls. But you have to know which shade suits you.

Green

Means service, help, kindness, harmony, interaction. Green harmonizes, pacifies. Why do you think modern designers, decorating this or that office (seemingly a place of more than business), certainly try to put vases with live or artificial plants? Right, not just for beauty. Secretly the green color will contribute to achieving harmony with customers. After all, the atmosphere is also very influential on visitors.

If we talk about the use of green in clothing, it used to be unfairly rejected by many people because it seemed to give the skin an unhealthy color. It depends on what kind of skin and what shade. Choose correctly – and don’t impoverish your closet. But remember, green makes you look fat.

Blue and blue

Blue expresses peace, openness. Blue reduces eye strain and has a positive effect on the heart rate. In clothing, it is almost universal, indispensable in the classical style and in the modern one. Because it is perceived most relaxed, some fashion designers sometimes embody their most unimaginable ideas in this color. Although this color comes and goes. And fashion dictates its special shades: from almost black to bright sapphire.

Blue and blue are very popular among women. Why? Because it is a bit sad, but wise color of patience and tolerance. These are the most feminine qualities in the world. In addition, blue has the effect that our whole body, not only the psyche, feels the coolness and peace of this color.

Yellow and orange

Yellow in clothing is very individual. In summer, this color is a good shade for a tanned skin. And in general, it is considered a manifestation of rationality and optimism. As bioenergetics experts found out, this color stabilizes and strengthens the nervous system, disperses melancholy, and inspires faith. It is oriented towards the future, gives rest and promotes positive emotions.

Orange symbolizes development, focus on success. This color is the most tenacious for the eyes, it is even more likely to “catch” the eye than red, but not very addictive. In my opinion, you have to be very careful when wearing red. Not only because it doesn’t suit everyone, but also because one has to avoid looking like a road worker wearing this color. It’s understandable: not to be run over by a car. But men, if you want to know, this color in women’s clothes repulses.

Purple

Always considered the color of artists and clergy (Western), it symbolizes the mysterious, the irrational. It is the favorite color of children who believe in magic, because it conjures up dreams, fantasies… It’s actually a rare color. But lately a lot of clothes in this color became very popular.

Max Lusher believes that purple is the main color of erotic. In general, the erotic colors, in his opinion, are all shades from dark purple to pink. Remember how the spectrum goes? Curiously enough, it was purple that became the color of feminists. However, everything is understandable: women who suppress the carnal attraction in themselves, try to make up for the lacking with the color scheme of their toiletries.

Brown and gray

But the color brown is more complicated. According to the Swiss professor, it is a symbol of anxiety, envy, dissatisfaction. He says that brown is the color of inner conflict, of powerlessness, of innate aggression. When I read these words in one of my classrooms I got a student dressed in a dark brown leather jacket, who resented them. She can be understood: it is not very pleasant to hear such things about the color of your expensive clothes. But then what about the fact that for decades Soviet schoolchildren wore exactly the brown uniform, so hated by them and, probably, influenced their psyche a lot? And why were fascists called “brown”?

Gray is the color of passivity, conformity, modesty. It is considered good for business clothing. In the old days it was considered a color of refinement and elegance. Listen to how it sounds: “The pearl gray velvet of the dress…” Nowadays, gray is the perfect background for stronger and “lively” colors, it softens and ennobles them.

Black

What can be said about the color black? Lusher: “This color is an expression of maximalism, of criticism, of judgment. Maybe that’s why it has become so popular among young people lately. After all, they severely judge the older generations for “driving the country”. Maximalism and criticism have always been peculiar to young people. However, modern young people do not spend much time on idle criticism. They look for ways and means to arrange their lives.

Black, perhaps, never goes out of fashion. It is especially good in the evening. And during the day it can be worn only by young women, and only by those who have white skin and a fresh complexion. Those who have an unhealthy complexion or darker skin would better give it up.

For a long time in France and Italy, black was considered very erotic. The explanation? Women of the “oldest profession” wore underwear of this color. Dirt was more imperceptible on it. Nowadays black is not considered erotic. It is the color of passion, which only enhances the impression of other colors. For example, the combination of black with red symbolizes that you want to conquer someone.

White

The king of colors, elegance itself. White marks perfection, flawlessness, sanctity, purity. It looks good in any material, whether it is fur, wool, linen, cotton or anything else.

But there is a problem with its shade. Because it can be not just white, but snow-white, or ivory, or melted milk, and so on and so forth. We are not, of course, the Japanese, whose children already at school can distinguish about 40 shades of gray, but still we need to know which shades are good for whom.
